JD Motorsports has confirmed that Ross Chastain will return to its No. 4 JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Camaro SS. Chastain, who earned his first career win in the series last September in Las Vegas with Chip Ganassi Racing during a season split between the two teams, had previously been set to switch to Ganassi on a full-time basis this season. However, that plan fell through earlier this month when sponsor DC Solar pulled out, forcing Ganassi’s No. 42 team to close down. Chastain will instead return to the family team based in Gaffney, South Carolina, this time for the full 30-race season.
“We here at JD Motorsports are looking forward to having Ross back in the No. 4 in 2019,” said team owner, Johnny Davis. “He has shown his ability to wheel a race car time and time again while competing against some of the top teams in the sport. I am excited to see how far the improvements made in the off season will take the No. 4 car this year.”
Blake Koch, who was originally slotted in to drive the No. 4 following Chastain’s announced switch to Ganassi, “has decided… to focus primarily on overseeing the success of his growing company, Filter Time,” according to a team release. “Blake’s decision ultimately leads to him stepping away from the series, and all of us here at JD Motorsports with Gary Keller wish him the best moving forward.”
RM Parks, Inc, EZ Angus Ranch and Mc Divitt Sign Company will sponsor the No. 4 for all five of the West Coast races. Additional sponsorship announcements are expected to be forthcoming.
The NASCAR Xfinity Series season opens Saturday, February 16 at Daytona.
