Finding itself an ocean away from its Belgian headquarters, WRT Speedster is partnering with Spirit of Daytona Racing for this weekend’s Rolex 24 At Daytona.
Without having a car entered in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship opener, the Daytona Beach team loaned its hauler to WRT Speedster, in addition to giving additional support to the No. 88 Audi R8 LMS to be driven by Ian James, Roman DeAngelis, Frederic Vervisch and Kelvin van der Linde.
“We’re far away from our base,” said SRT sporting director Pierre Dieudonne. “Spirit of Daytona has been very helpful, and we’re very happy to have their assistance.”
Spirit of Daytona crewman Shawn Fost will be helping SRT with its equipment setup and running the race. Team owner Troy Flis will also be on hand to help if needed.
In the meantime, Spirit of Daytona is exploring its options to eventually return to the WeatherTech Championship.
“Right now, we’re looking for a program that fits both our needs and their needs,” Flis said. “Right now, we’ve been busy testing, along with working in support roles, keeping our guys busy. When we find the right program, we’ll be back. We have the people, we have the equipment, we just don’t have the budget right now.”
