The 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship season is set to run with a pre-season ‘Prologue’ test, adding to the eight-race schedule.
Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is the chosen venue for the test, the first WEC event for the Spanish Grand Prix venue. This marks the third venue for the WEC Prologue, which previously was held at Paul Ricard and Monza.
Due to the calendar running through the winter, the test will be held in July, with the specific dates mid-week on Wednesday the 24th and Thursday the 25th. This will provide all the teams on the entry with a first chance to test and run new cars/drivers in a competitive environment.
The teams will then race at Silverstone in the opening round of the season five weeks later.
The series has also revealed that the 2018-19 season will feature a Rookie test (as specified by article 9.1 of the FIA WEC Sporting Regulations) in its traditional slot the day after the race at Bahrain on December 15 next year, which in 2019/20 will be the fourth round of the season.
WEC-nominated “Rookie” drivers will be awarded a minimum of 30 laps during the test day in the middle east. The five hours of track time is also available to other WEC competitors should they wish to profit from the opportunity to evaluate potential drivers.
