Kevin Harvick was fastest in the only practice session for NASCAR Cup Series teams Saturday at Talladega Superspeedway.

The No. 4 led the way as seven Fords dotted the top 10 on the speed chart. Harvick laid down a lap of 204.227 mph. Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Aric Almirola was second quickest at 203.957 mph.

Per the norm at a restrictor-plate track, there were different strategies for teams. Some drivers ran in a pack while others did single-car runs ahead of the afternoon qualifying session.

Completing the top five were Joey Logano (202.478 mph), who won the spring race, Clint Bowyer (202.431 mph), and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (202.388 mph).

Ty Dillon (202.354 mph), Austin Dillon (202.200 mph), Kurt Busch (202.196 mph), Brad Keselowski (202.192 mph), and Erik Jones (202.081 mph) rounded out the top 10. Keselowski is the defending race winner.

There were no incidents in the 1 hour, 15-minute session.

Nine drivers had to serve practice holds.

Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez, and David Ragan lost 15 minutes for their cars being late to inspection last weekend. Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr. were docked the same amount of time for their cars failing pre-race inspection twice.

Brad Keselowski, DJ Kennington, and Landon Cassill also lost 15 minutes as their spotters missed a mandatory spotters meeting.

Darrell Wallace Jr. sat out the final 30 minutes for his car failing pre-race inspection three times last weekend.

UP NEXT: qualifying at 3:35 p.m. CT/4:35 p.m. ET.
