Truex, Suarez to start from rear after failing pre-race inspection

Martin Truex Jr. and Daniel Suarez will start at the rear of the field for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway because of inspection failures.

Truex’s car failed pre-race inspection three times. Qualifying was washed out and the No. 78 was lined up by owner points, third, but Truex will have to drop to the rear for the start. Car chief Blake Harris has also been ejected.

Suarez was slated to start 20th, but his car failed four times. In addition to going to the rear, car chief Todd Brewer has been ejected from the event. The No. 19 team will also be docked 10 driver points.

NASCAR officials held its regular pre-race inspection Saturday afternoon after rain canceled qualifying. Once inspection is complete the cars will be impounded until the race starts – meaning no adjustments.

Rain also canceled all track activity Saturday, so Cup Series teams will start the race without any practice or qualifying laps. Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick will start from the front row.

The 160-lap race is the regular-season finale and will set the field for the playoffs.
