TV Ratings: Elliott's win is weekend's biggest sports draw

Chase Elliott’s first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series win at Watkins Glen was a ratings winner over the weekend, scoring a 2.32 and averaging 3.67 million viewers on NBC, edging out the PGA Tour’s WGC-Bridgestone tournament on CBS as the weekend’s most-watched sports event on both network and cable. NBC Sports PR reports the race had a total audience delivery of 3.7 million (between TV and digital streaming). Last year’s race on NBCSN delivered a 2.02 rating and averaged 3.25 million viewers.

Saturday’s Xfinity Series race also saw a big jump over 2017, with a 1.14 rating and 1.67 million viewers compared to a 0.79/1.2 million last year on NBCSN.

The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series drew a 0.47 rating and averaged 690,000 viewers on FOX, down from 2017’s 0.55/883,000 on the same network.

Ratings were unavailable for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s race at Road America.
