Bertil Roos Racing School graduate Das shows form in Europe

Bertil Roos Racing School graduate Cameron Das continues to impress in the Euroformula Open Series.

The 18-year-old from Maryland ranks fifth in the series points after recent races on the Hungarorian course where the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix is held annually. Driving the No. 28 Dallara for British-based Carlin Motorsport, Das posted finishes of fifth in the first race and fourth in the second race.

He is the highest-ranking American in the series, one spot behind defending Italian F4 champion Marcos Siebert.

Das qualified second in the previous Euroformula race at Spa (Belgium) and put his highly intricate training he received at Bertil Roos Racing School to good use, quickly moving to the lead. Das and Siebert then swapped the lead multiple times before they made contact on Lap 7, eliminating an unhappy Das from the race.

Still, Das made quite an impression for the weekend. He was the fastest driver during opening day at Spa with a lap of 2:13.44 in the final practice session. After his hard luck in the Saturday race, he qualified 10th on Sunday before racing through the field to finish fifth.

“I was leading the race on Saturday until I was taken out, but we were rapid all the way through,” Das said. “We showed what we were capable of. From P10 to P5 in Race 2, thanks to some mega teamwork with Matheus Iorio!”

In his first season in Euroformula Open, Das, the 2016 F4 U.S. champion, has five top-five finishes in eight races with a best finish of third at The Circuit Paul Ricard in France.

He has taken many of the techniques learned behind the wheel of Bertil Roos Racing School’s formula cars on tracks like Palm Beach International Raceway and applied them on some of Europe’s most famous circuits.

Next on the schedule is England’s famed Silverstone circuit, the oldest purpose-built racing venue on the Formula One schedule and home of the British Grand Prix. It’s a track where racing legends Jim Clark and Alain Prost, and current Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton all have five victories.
