The Pro-Am pairing of teenager Parker Chase and veteran Ryan Dalziel drove their No. 19 TruSpeed Audi R8 LMS sports car to victory Sunday at Portland International Raceway in the GT SprintX Round 8 60-minute in the 58th annual Rose Cup Races featuring the Pirelli World Challenge.
Chase, 17, drove a sensational final stint against Porsche factory drivers Wolf Henzler and Michael Christensen as well as other top GT racers to score his first GT Overall win Sunday at the 1.97-mile, 12-turn road course north of Portland. Dalziel, a multi-time GT race winner, started the race in the No. 19 Audi and was running third when he passed off the car to the teenager.
It was a spectacular weekend for the TruSpeed Autosport squad with an GT Overall victory on Sunday and a second overall and Pro/Am GT win on Saturday with Chase and Dalziel.
Second in the 44-lap GT SprintX feature Sunday was the No. 3 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 with factory shoe Maxime Soulet and young star Rodrigo Baptista, who placed 2.056 seconds behind the winning team. Third went to the No. 96 Pfaff Motorsports/Castrol Porsche 911 GT3 R of Scott Hargrove and Henzler.
The Hargrove/Henzler duo took the checkered flag first Sunday but was penalized three seconds for an on-track infraction.
Rounding out the top five overall in the 60-minute race was the No. 24 Alegra Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Michael Christensen and Spencer Pumpelly, winners in GT SprintX at Lime Rock Park in May along with the Pro/Am tandem of Jeff Segal and Wei Lu in the No. 31 TR3 Racing Ferrari 488 GT3.
Saturday’s GT SprintX winners – Toni Vilander and Miguel Molina in the No. 61 RFerri Motorsport Ferrari 488 GT3 — finished seventh overall Sunday after leading early in the event. However, the Ferrari pair were handed a drive-through penalty after an equipment malfunction during their pit stop.
Capturing the Am category Sunday was the pair of Martin Fuentes and Caesar Bacarella in the No. 07 Squadra Corse Italia Ferrari 488 GT3, while Ryan Hardwick and his No. 27 Dream Racing Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo won in the GT SprintX Cup class.
Rounds 9 and 10 of the GT SprintX series now moves to Utah Motorsports Campus in Grantsville, Utah, on August 10-12.
