Tim Nichols, the winningest driver in the history of the Bertil Roos Race Series, led the group of winners at the most recent event at New Jersey Motorsports Park.
Nichols, a three-time and defending series champion, scored his 52nd career victory on the Millville, New Jersey, facility’s Thunderbolt course. Nichols started second, moved to the front and captured the win by holding off Andy Ourant, who swept Group 1 races at the series’ last event in Pocono Raceway. Chris Sanford worked his way up from a sixth-place start to secure a third-place podium finish.
Saif Burkhari, who set fast time of 1:39.86 around the winding course, recovered from an eighth-place run in the opening race to win the second race. Glenn Brooks finished second with Seth Foley rounding out the podium. Nichols finished ninth in race No. 2.
Among the Group 2 drivers, Gabe Jasper qualified third, but powered to the front to win the first of two races. Ira Nesbitt both qualified and finished second, while Geoff Valentino, who laid down the best qualifying lap at 1:40.02, ended up third.
Vincent Caintic, who finished right off the podium in the opening race, captured the second race. Valentino parlayed his fast ride into a runner-up finish and Jason Auwarter came home third.
After six races, Robert Pielsticker holds a seven-point lead (116-109) over Ourant in the point standings. Chris Sanford is third with 103 points.
