Chase Elliott will compete in select Xfinity Series races with GMS Racing for the suspended Spencer Gallagher beginning this weekend.
The 2014 series champ will drive the No. 23 Chevrolet with backing from Hooters in Saturday’s event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Elliott will also drive the car on June 2 at Pocono Raceway, June 30 at Daytona International Speedway and Aug. 17 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
“I appreciate GMS letting me get behind the wheel of the No. 23,” said Elliott. “I’m excited to have Hooters on the car for Charlotte. It’s a big week for them and I look forward to representing them in a new way on the Xfinity side.”
Elliott most recently competed in the Xfinity Series in February at Daytona. In 73 races, Elliott has five wins, two poles, and 59 top-10 finishes.
Gallagher was suspended indefinitely on May 2 for violating the substance abuse policy just days after winning his first career race at Talladega Superspeedway.
GMS Racing says the drivers who will be in the car for the other races will be announced at a later date.
