Larson leads All-Star practice

Kyle Larson was fastest in a rare race day practice session at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

NASCAR added a one-hour session for teams to become familiar with the aero package for this weekend after rain wiped out most of Friday’s activities at the speedway. It was a combined session for both the drivers competing in the All-Star Race and the Open.

Larson’s best lap was 173.305mph. Stewart-Haas Racing drivers Clint Bowyer (173.255mph), Kevin Harvick (173.049mph) and Aric Almirola (172.977mph) were second, third and fourth fastest, respectively. Daniel Suarez completed the top five at 172.656mph.

Almirola and Suarez will look to transfer into the All-Star Race from the Open.

Rounding out the top 10 were Darrell Wallace Jr. (172.474mph), Kurt Busch (172.463mph), Alex Bowman (172.359mph), Ryan Blaney (171.937mph), and Chase Elliott (171.898mph).

Wallace, Bowman, and Elliott are also looking for spots in the All-Star Race.

NEXT UP: The Open at 6 p.m. and the All-Star Race at approximately 8 p.m. ET.
