Roger Penske visited with RACER‘s Marshall Pruett to discuss Team Penske’s pursuit of its 200th Indy car victory after securing No. 199 at Barber Motorsports Park in April.
“I remember when we were trying to get to 100 and we had the [celebratory] hats in our trailer for a year…” the Captain said. “One more [win] and we get to 200 in the sport, [which] is amazing.”
Starting with Mark Donohue at the 1972 Indy 500, Penske’s Josef Newgarden earned the 199th win last month in Alabama, and with the team’s history of success in the Indy Grand Prix, No. 200 could be an immediate possibility.
“When you think about this weekend and the next couple of weeks here in Indianapolis, if we could get our 200th win and say we got it in Indianapolis, it would be just an amazing thing for me,” Penske added. “This is what really made out here when we won with Mark in 1972, it gave me the energy and the commitment to get sponsors and we built this team.”
