UPDATED: Nemechek on standby to fill in for Larson at Kansas

UPDATE: Larson baby arrives early:

John Hunter Nemechek could get the chance to jump behind the wheel of a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series car at Kansas Speedway.

During the 41-minute rain delay yesterday in Dover, Chip Ganassi Racing driver Kyle Larson said he believed Nemechek would be close-by in case he’s needed this weekend. Larson and his fiancé, Katelyn Sweet, are expecting the birth of their second child very soon.

“I think we’re going to have John Hunter on call for Kansas, may have him practice a little bit there that way he’s comfortable in it if we do have to have him race on Saturday,” said Larson. “Once we get back to Charlotte I should be fine with the All-Star Race and hopefully, have the baby before the [Coca-Cola] 600.”

Larson and Sweet have a three-year-old son, Owen.

“It’s been good,” Larson said of this pregnancy. “Katelyn’s been feeling great or at least I think she has, she might have a different opinion! But she gets checked every Tuesday and everything has been going good.”
