Ty Dillon led a clean opening practice session at Talladega Super Speedway for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

Dillon paced the 2.66-mile facility at 202.959mph with Daniel Suarez second fastest at 202.680mph. Suarez’s time was matched by Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch. Denny Hamlin at 202.671mph and Ryan Newman at 202.637mph completed the top five.

Filling out the top 10 were Martin Truex Jr. (202.628mph), Erik Jones (202.564mph), Austin Dillon (202.555mph), Jimmie Johnson (200.088mph), and Alex Bowman (199.962mph).

Defending race winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was 29th in the session at 191.180 mph.

Thirty-six of the 40 cars entered participated in the session.
