Kurt Busch is the latest driver going to the rear of the field for the start of the Food City 500 at Bristol.
The No. 41 Stewart-Haas Racing team had pulled the backup car off the hauler after Busch spun off Turn 2 with less than 10 minutes to go in final practice. Busch, who had qualified second, hit the inside wall on the backstretch and damaged the front end of his Ford.
“Wow. I’m really sorry,” Busch said over the radio.
Busch joins teammate Kevin Harvick (also in a backup car) and Jimmie Johnson (tire change) starting in the rear.
David Ragan paced the final 50-minute practice session of the weekend. Ragan’s fastest lap was 127.487mph over Chase Elliott’s 127.073mph.
Completing the top five were Denny Hamlin (126.997.mph), Kurt Busch (126.537mph), Michael McDowell (126.295mph).
Rounding out the top 10 were AJ Allmendinger (126.204mph), polesitter Kyle Busch (126.129mph), Daniel Suarez (126.112mph), Kasey Kahne (126.079mph), and Jimmie Johnson (126.021mph).
