NASCAR viewership slipped in head-to-head competition with an upset-filled NCAA Tournament this past weekend.
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Fontana drew a 2.41 rating and averaged 4.03 million viewers on FOX. On this weekend last year, the Cup race at Phoenix earned a 3.0 overnight/5.4 million for the Camping World 500, down from the 3.6 it drew in 2016 when the race was held before the tournament, according to SportsBusiness Daily.
The Xfinity Series race earned a 0.75 and averaged 1.19 million viewers on FS1. That’s down from the 1.21/1.85 million viewers a year ago when the series raced at Phoenix.
Ratings for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Mobil1 Twelve Hours of Sebring were not immediately available.
Final eliminations from the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Gatornationals drew viewers similar to 2017, scoring a 0.29 rating and averaged 420,000 viewers; in 2017 the Gainesville event had a 0.29 rating with 439,000 viewers.
