Kevin Harvick shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, as he was again fastest in practice at Auto Club Speedway.
The Stewart-Haas Racing driver paced Saturday’s early session with a lap of 186.075mph. Harvick, who starts 10th, goes into Sunday’s race seeking his fourth consecutive victory in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
Harvick was also fastest in the best five, 10 and 15 consecutive lap categories.
Behind Harvick came his SHR teammate, Kurt Busch. Busch briefly jumped atop the leaderboard, but ultimately finished second in the session at 184.431mph. Chase Elliott was third fastest at 184.021 with defending race winner Kyle Larson fourth fastest at 183.908. Rounding out the top five was Ryan Blaney at 183.861.
The rest of the top 10 were Brad Keselowski (183.580mph), AJ Allmendinger (183.505), Joey Logano (183.477), Alex Bowman (183.141), and Clint Bowyer (183.132).
In his first laps in his backup car after crashing in practice, Daniel Suarez was 16th in the session.
Heavy overnight rain resulted in a delayed start to the session as NASCAR worked to dry the track. As a result, officials extended the session by five minutes, giving teams 43 minutes of track time.
There were no incidents in the session.
