A week before on-track activity gets under way for the 56th Rolex 24 At Daytona – one of the most highly anticipated season openers ever – a pair of IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship stars – Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor – and IMSA President Scott Atherton were in New York City for several high-profile media opportunities beginning late Thursday afternoon and continuing into Friday.
Castroneves is a three-time Indianapolis 500 winner who is moving to full-time sports car competition in 2018 as full-season co-driver of the No. 7 Acura Team Penske Acura ARX-05 DPi car alongside Taylor, the 2017 WeatherTech Championship Prototype class champion and 2017 winner of the Rolex 24 At Daytona. The tour’s first stop brings the group to Men’s Health before moving on to CNN International, where Castroneves will be interviewed live on the network’s “World Sports” telecast at 6:50 p.m. ET.
Friday’s jam-packed activities began with an appearance on the New York FOX affiliate’s “Good Day New York” telecast. The drivers and Atherton appeared along with an Acura ARX-05 race car to promote the FOX network telecast of the Rolex 24, which kicks off its coverage at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 27.
From there, it was on to visits with ABC Sports for radio interviews, OZY.com, The Player’s Tribune, Forbes.com and SI.com. The group completed their whirlwind tour at the New York Stock Exchange, where they rang the closing bell.
