Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s Ryan Briscoe has an iron-clad excuse for missing all of Friday and Saturday’s driving duties at Watkins Glen: His wife Nicole was busy giving birth to their second child.
A second daughter, Blake James Briscoe, was born Friday night, and joins young Finley Briscoe in their expanded family. Blake’s birth also meant Briscoe was able to stay with wife overnight and celebrate her birthday before starting the drive from their home in Connecticut, where she works as an anchor for ESPN, to Watkins Glen. The transplanted Australian arrived in time to watch teammate Richard Westbrook qualify their car on pole.
Briscoe is expected to turn his first laps in the No. 67 Ford GT during Sunday morning warm-up ahead of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.
