NASCAR and IndyCar both went road racing last Sunday, and the audiences responded well.
NASCAR closed out its run on the FOX Sports networks with the Sprint Cup race at Sonoma and scored a 2.2 rating on FOX Sports 1, averaging 3.9 million viewers. That was down from a 2.4 rating for this race last year but still up from a 2.0 for the last FS1 Cup race at Michigan.
The Verizon IndyCar Series returned to Road America for the first time since 2007 and scored a 0.44 overnight rating on NBCSN, averaging 470,000 viewers. Forgetting the weather-aborted Texas race, the last NBCSN IndyCar race at Barber back in April scored a 0.26 rating and 279,000 average.
The Indy Lights series, which followed IndyCar on NBCSN, averaged 122,000 viewers.
The NHRA was live again for coverage of eliminations from Norwalk on FS1 and again scored well, averaging 651,000 viewers.
NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series scored another solid 593,000 average viewers for its Saturday race from Gateway on FS1.
MotoGP averaged 49,000 viewers live on BEinSports on Sunday morning.
