IMSA: Sunday Roar Before The 24 Live Report

RACER is reporting live from the Jan. 8-10 Roar Before The 24 at Daytona International Speedway as teams prepare for the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona Jan. 28-31. Check back regularly for updates, and scroll down for earlier reports.

[3:35 p.m. ET]

• Antonio Garcia goes P1 in GTLM the last minutes of the session for Corvette Racing, as a wet track brings the Roar to a finish.

[1:45 p.m. ET]

• The final session of the Roar Before the 24 runs from 2:40-3:40 p.m. ET. Look for the end-of-day report where its results will be covered.

[1:15 p.m. ET]

• The first session ends with P2s holding a 1-2-3-4 hold on the Prototype field. Ozz Negri's 1:39.438 stands in the Michael Shank Racing Ligier JS P2-Honda over the No. 70 Mazda (1:39.828) driven by Tom Long. The BR01-Nissan P2 was third. Best among the DPs was Max Angelelli in fifth (1:39.973), whose Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP was 0.535 seconds off of Negri.

Colin Braun (PC, 1:42.531), Marcel Fassler (GTLM Corvette C7.R, 1:45.106), and Leh Keen (GTD Porsche 911 GT3 R, 1:47.852) led their classes.

The session was notable for the third Ford Chip Ganassi Racing crash of the event. Only the No. 67 FCGR Ford GT has avoided the barriers. Crashes by Lance Stroll on Friday (No. 01 Ford EcoBoost DP), Scott Dixon on Saturday (No. 02 Forc EcoBoost DP), and Dirk Muller this morning (No. 66 Ford GT) have given the defending race winners plenty of work to do. The three drivers were unhurt in their incidents.

[12:15 p.m. ET]

• Red flag for the No. 66 Ford GT driven by Dirk Muller who crashed at Turn 5. Per IMSA, Muller is being taken to the infield care center for evaluation.

[11:45 a.m. ET]

• Red flag for the no. 44 Magnus Racing Audi R8, which was stopped in Turn 3.

[11:30 a.m. ET]

• DPs have made inroads on the P2s. Max Angelelli's WTR Corvette DP is up to fifth (1:39.973).

[11:01 a.m. ET]

• The top-6 right now is comprised of five P2s and the DeltaWing: Ligier-Honda, BR01-Nissan, DeltaWing DWC13, Multimatic-Mazda, Multimatic-Mazda, Ligier-Honda. The fastest P2 (1:39.438) is 1.090 seconds faster than the top Daytona Prototype (Max Angelelli, WTR Corvette DP, 1:40.528).

[10:50 a.m. ET]

• The Park Place Motorsports team recovered from its crash yesterday, returning to turn a shakedown lap with Jorg Bergmeister in No. 73 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

[10:40 a.m. ET]

• Ozz Negri jumps to P1 overall with a 1:39.438 in his Michael Shank Racing Ligier JS P2-Honda. Colin Braun (PC, 1:42.613), Oliver Gavin (GTLM, 1:45.106), and Bryan Sellers (GTD, 1:47.881) lead their respective classes.

[10:00 a.m. ET]

• IMSA has two sessions left to run today as it wraps the three-day Roar Before The 24 test for WeatherTech SportsCar Championship cars. Action kicks off from 10:20 a.m.-12:35 p.m.
