Fresh from its win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the CORE autosport PC team led the field during Free Practice 1 at Lime Rock as IMSA opened its Pro-Am weekend for half of the TUDOR United SportsCar Challenge grid.
With 17 cars from PC and GT Daytona headlining the Northeast Grand Prix event, CORE’s Colin Braun set the standard early in FP1 with a 0.48.862-second lap in the No. 54 entry he shares with team owner Jon Bennett.
Braun was the only driver to dip below the 49-second barrier until late in the 90-minute session when Performance Tech Motorsport’s Conor Daly produced a 0.48.996 in the No. 38 PC. Tom Kimber-Smith completed the PC top-3 with a 0.49.083 in the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen machine.
GTD was led by Spencer Pumpelly in the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT America. His 0.53.805 tour of the 1.47-mile road course edged Jeroen Bleekemolen’s 0.53.940 in the No. 33 Riley Technologies Dodge Viper SRT, and Magnus Racing’s Andy Lally, whose 0.53.947 lap in the no. 44 Porsche 911 GT America was just 0.007 behind the Dutchman.
A crash by Michael Marsal in the No. 97 Turner Motorsport BMW Z4 was the only significant hiccup during the session. Damage to the 2014 GTD championship-winning car could require lengthy repairs that keep the V8-powered entry from returning before qualifying.
FP2 is scheduled to start at 2:50 p.m. ET.
