IndyCar star James Hinchcliffe makes his return to the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship this weekend, driving the No. 78 Starworks Motorsport Honda-powered/Riley DP in Sunday’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America.

Hinchcliffe – who will compete in his first TUDOR Championship race since the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona – will join co-driver and defending race winner Scott Mayer in the Prototype entry which last competed at Sebring in March.

“I’m really excited to be at Road America this weekend with Starworks and HPD,” said Hinchcliffe. “I don’t have a ton of time in the DP cars, but I know Road America well and I’m sure, with a team like Starworks, they will get me up to speed quick. Already having a relationship with HPD makes this an even cooler proposition and should help make the transition easier. More than anything I’m just happy to be in a car on an off weekend.”

Starworks Motorsport won the Road America event in the GRAND-AM Rolex Series in 2013 with Mayer and co-driver Brendon Hartley. Team owner Peter Baron hopes the addition of Hinchcliffe and the further development of the car will result in a solid finish this weekend.

“I’m thrilled to be back competing for a win,” said Baron. “Obviously we lost a fair amount of development and learning with the car as it was sidelined while our competition was on track, but we are optimistic on the return. Our goal for this outing is to show that we are reliable and competitive, and to build on the results. We aim to show, by season’s end, that we are back competing for wins, positioning ourselves well for 2015.”

The Continental Tire Road Race Showcase can be seen Sunday on FOX Sports 1 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
