Racing technology leads the July 2014 issue of SportsCar magazine

The July 2014 issue’s blow-through cover of SportsCar magazine, RACER magazine’s sister publication and the official member magazine of the Sports Car Club of America, features one of the newest and most exciting formula classes in SCCA Club Racing: Formula 1000. Powered by 1,000cc motorcycle engines, this is SCCA’s latest “builder” class, as chassis and body design rules require preconceived notions to be tossed and limits to be pushed in order to hit the 1,000-pound minimum weight. And while the motors must remain mostly stock, the motorcycle transmissions allow for a number of add-ons that push these racecars into the next generation of racing.

Other technology features in this issue include a breakdown of how global positioning data boxes – and GPS units in your daily driver – work, plus a behind-the-rubber look at competition tires.

This issue of SportsCar also contains race coverage from SCCA’s BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour at Thunderhill Raceway Park, as well as articles from the movers and shakers in the SCCA, including SCCA’s President and CEO Lisa Noble, SCCA Board of Directors Chairman John Walsh, and SCCA Club Racing Board’s Chairman Jim Wheeler, to name a few.

SportsCar magazine is mailed monthly to the members of the SCCA. To join the SCCA, head to www.scca.com. Digital issues of SportsCar magazine are available to SCCA members by logging in to https://ams.scca.com.
