Rookie Carlos Munoz topped the times in the 30-minute pre-race warm-up for today’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (airing at 3 p.m. ET on ABC). His lap of 1:02.2239 in the No. 34 Cinsay Andretti TV HVM car bested Josef Newgarden (1:02.3404) in the No. 67 Sarah Fisher Hartman entry, who had struggled mightily in qualifying yesterday and will start last in the 22-car field.
Sebastien Bourdais was third (1:02.3841) in the No. 11 Hydroxycut KVSH Racing car. Graham Rahal, who will share the back row of the grid with Newgarden, was fourth quick (1:02.4952) in the warm-up. Polesitter Takuma Sato was ninth.
The top 13 cars were separated by less than a second.
