Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates’ Scott Dixon needed just nine laps to post the lap that would stand as the fastest for opening practice at the 62nd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

The defending IndyCar Series champion pushed the No. 02 Riley-Ford EcoBoost DP to a lap of 1:52.357, leading the No. 42 Oak Racing Morgan-Nissan P2 entry driven by Alex Brundle (1:52.858). Joao Barbosa ran third in the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP (1:53.404).

Dixon’s lap compares favorably to the best set during the recent series test at Sebring, a 1:52.480.

Colin Braun was fastest among the PC cars, turning a 1:55.382 to lead David Ostella (1:56.633) and Duncan Ende (1:56.695).

Risi Competizione’s Matteo Malucelli was pleasantly surprised to post the fastest GTLM lap in the team’s new No. 62 Ferrari F458 chassis (1:59.394), lapping significantly faster than Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner in second (2:00.027) with the No. 4 C7.R. Milner’s Corvette Racing teammate Antonio Garcia was a close third (2:00.111) in the No. 3.

GTD’s best lap went to TRG-AMR’s James Davison (2:03.762) in his No. 007 V12 Vantage, Kuba Giermaziak (2:03.800) was second in his No. 30 MOMO/NGT Motorsport Porsche 911 GT America and Craig Stanton set the third-fastest lap (2:04.503) in Park Place Motorsports’ No. 73 Porsche 911 GT America.

High winds complicated the first practice, but other than slightly adverse conditions, no stoppages were recorded during the one-hour session.
