Gavin to race in V8 Supercars rounds

Sports car ace Oliver Gavin will contest V8 Supercars’ three endurance rounds this season with Walkinshaw Racing.

The factory Corvette driver is set to pair up with Nick Percat in the Walkinshaw Holden for the Sandown 500, Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast 600, which form V8s’ Enduro Cup.

Gavin contested the Surfers Paradise V8 event in 2011 when teams were all required to bring in international co-drivers, taking a pair of top-six finishes alongside Greg Murphy at Kelly Racing.

The Briton had a brief run in Walkinshaw’s VF Commodore during the pre-season test at Eastern Creek last weekend.

“It was fantastic, it was great to drive and work with the guys from Walkinshaw Racing, particularly to be sharing the car with Nick,” Gavin said. “I only got five dry laps in total, but it was great just to spend a day with the team and see how things operate. It’s whetted my appetite for more and I can’t wait to get back to Australia for the races later in the year.”

Gavin’s primary campaign this year is with the works Corvette GT team in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and Le Mans 24 Hours.
