Malucelli released from hospital

By

Risi Competizione Ferrari driver Matteo Malucelli has been released from Halifax hospital in the wake of the race-stopping accident in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The Italian was hit by GAINSCO/Bob Stallings DP driven by Memo Gidley at the end of the third hour of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship opener. He spent a night in hospital at the Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for observation and was released on Sunday afternoon.

Malucelli has been cleared to fly home to Italy later on Monday.

No further information is available on the reasons why the Risi Ferrari 458 Italia slowed on the infield before being hit by an unsighted Gidley.

The Ferrari and the Riley have both been impounded by IMSA for further investigation.

Gidley remains in hospital after undergoing surgery on his left leg and arm on Saturday night. He will require a further operation on back injuries.
