Sam Bird plans to remain in single-seater racing next season, alongside his deal to race in the United SportsCar Championship with Starworks.

GP2 runner-up Bird yesterday announced a deal to race for Starworks in January’s Daytona 24 Hours, the Sebring 12 Hours and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

While excited by the prospect of making his debut in US sportscar racing, Bird still has designs on remaining in single-seaters next season.

AUTOSPORT understands Bird has several options open to him, including a combination of Formula 1, IndyCar and Super Formula in Japan.

“I am very pleased to have confirmed this three race programme with Starworks and I would like to thank Peter Baron for giving me this opportunity,” said Bird.

“This will be my first foray into LMP endurance racing as well as my first time competing in America so it’s a ‘double first’.

“My management and I are continuing to consider various opportunities for a more comprehensive racing programme.

“Quite a few interesting avenues are open to us across a range of racing disciplines and we expect to make further announcements in the New Year.”
