Bobby Labonte will contest a partial NASCAR Sprint Cup season for Phoenix Racing in 2014, starting with the Daytona 500.
The 2000 Cup champion lost his JTG Daugherty seat to AJ Allmendinger during 2013. He will now return to Phoenix, for which he drove several times in 2010 and once last season, to contest selected races in a second Chevrolet alongside its full-time No. 51 entry. The move has been brokered by Phoenix’s former owner James Finch, who sold the team to Harry Scott Jr. earlier this year.
“James continues to be a valuable part of our team and when he came up with the idea of running Bobby in a second car, I jumped at the opportunity to bring him back into the fold,” said Scott. “Bobby is a veteran driver that can also provide valuable insight and leadership for Phoenix Racing.”
