Ferrari junior driver Raffaele Marciello was quickest in both sessions on the first day of Formula Renault 3.5 testing at Aragon.
This year’s European Formula 3 champion’s Strakka entry was followed by Formula Renault 2.0 graduate Esteban Ocon, fresh from his star performance in Macau, in both the morning and afternoon, with Marciello quickest by seven tenths of a second at the end of the day.
Ocon’s FRenault 2.0 rival Oliver Rowland also showed good pace as he took fourth in the morning and third in the afternoon for Fortec.
Rowland was paired with 2014 Sauber Formula 1 prospect and ’13 FR3.5 frontrunner Sergey Sirotkin. The Russian pipped the Briton to third in session one and was second to Marciello later on before having his best laptimes disallowed.
Recent single-seater returnee Dean Stoneman was in action with Carlin and was 17th in the afternoon.
2011 Formula 2 champion Mirko Bortolotti also returned to single-seaters after winning this year’s Eurocup Megane Trophy. The Italian drove for Draco.
