NASCAR Sprint Cup title contender Matt Kenseth was fastest in both Saturday practice sessions before his championship showdown with Jimmie Johnson at Homestead.
Although Kenseth faces an uphill task to deny Johnson a sixth title given the Hendrick driver’s 28-point lead, he has been the pacesetter at the Miami track for most of the weekend.
Kenseth put his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota on pole on Friday evening, and was then quickest in Saturday’s first practice session, where Johnson was only 15th. But while Kenseth immediately went top again in final practice, this time Johnson was second, only 0.061 second behind him.
Title outsider Kevin Harvick was fifth in both sessions.
Johnson only has to be classified 23rd on Sunday to secure the championship.
