Mark Webber thinks his Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel’s Austin pace is even faster than it looked in Friday practice.
Webber ended the first day of the United States Grand Prix weekend 0.115 second behind Vettel. But he believes the real speed gap was probably bigger.
“Seb did a pretty good lap – on his fourth attempt,” said Webber. “So I don’t think he got the best out of his tire, unfortunately. Fortunately for him but unfortunately for us.”
The Australian also warned that the step forward Vettel had made on race day in Abu Dhabi two weeks ago suggested little should be read into his practice form.
“I will try and get involved again if I can tomorrow,” said Webber, who beat Vettel to Yas Marina pole before being beaten in the grand prix. He wasn’t too happy in Abu Dhabi but then he destroyed us in the race. So I will try to have a clean Saturday and Sunday and get the best result for myself and the team.”
