A week of speculation regarding title sponsorship for 2014’s season-opening IndyCar Series event has been met with confirmation that Honda has withdrawn its backing for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
“To say we’re surprised is an understatement,” said St. Pete event president Tim Ramsberger in an interview with the Tampa Bay Times. “It’s a tough thing to experience but I don’t think it’ll [dampen] the race. It won’t affect us going forward.”
After multiple starts and stops to the event, the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg celebrates its 10th anniversary under Champ Car and IndyCar Series sanctioning.
