Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver Dario Franchitti issued a statement on Monday through his team thanking fans for their good wishes after his huge accident on the final lap of Sunday’s second half of the IndyCar double-header in Houston.
Franchitti, who was admitted to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston, has been diagnosed with two spinal fractures, a fracture to his right ankle, and a concussion.
The Scot had surgery on Sunday night to temporarily stabilize the ankle. He will remain in Houston for a few days, at which time he will be transported to Indianapolis for further evaluation.
“Thank you to everyone for all the well wishes. They mean a lot to me,” Franchitti said. “I would also like to send my best to all the fans involved in the accident and hope that everyone is all right.”
