Robert Kubica is likely to make his World Touring Car Championship debut in a C-Elysee next season, if he remains a Citroen rally driver into 2014.

Citroen team boss Yves Matton confirmed he would ask the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix winner to contest a WTCC race in Citroen’s all-new race car next year. Matton added that he expected Kubica to test the car before the end of this season.

“If we are doing something in rally, I will ask Robert to do one or two World Touring Car Championship events [in 2014],” said Matton. “Maybe some events we can run a test car to let him drive, but for sure he will not be involved as a championship driver next season.

“He is not interested in doing a full championship. But Robert is interested to drive in general and helping us with some advice and giving us some of his experience.”

Kubica has still not decided on his future in the sport. His next outing will be the Rally of France next week, where he will pursue the WRC 2 title in a DS3 RRC.

Matton added: “He hasn’t done any development testing yet. In our agreement from the start of the year, the plan was to let him drive the touring car and I hope that we can do this before the end of the year. He can give very good advice.”

Matton added that he is in no hurry to confirm a third full-time Citroen WTCC driver alongside Sebastien Loeb and Yvan Muller, and does not expect to announce anything before 2014.
