Sauber Formula 1 test driver Robin Frijns will return to Hilmer Motorsport for this weekend’s GP2 Series round at Spa.
The 22-year-old Dutchman won at Barcelona for the team, but lost his drive ahead of the Hungaroring round when Adrian Quaife-Hobbs switched from rival squad MP Motorsport.
The reigning Formula Renault 3.5 champion replaces British driver Jon Lancaster, who has won twice in GP2 this year for Hilmer and lies sixth in the championship.
Lancaster tweeted: “It’s official, I’m not racing at Spa. A situation that was out of our hands. Thank you to Franz Hilmer for the opportunity. I loved it.”
