Marc Marquez says Jorge Lorenzo’s collarbone injury is a blow for MotoGP and that he feels huge sympathy for his compatriot.

Lorenzo will miss at least this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix after sustaining a fractured collarbone when he crashed in practice at Assen on Thursday.

The Yamaha rider had won the last two races to close to within seven points of Marquez’s championship-leading Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa.

Marquez said it was particularly cruel for Lorenzo to get hurt when he was in such strong form.

“I’m very disappointed for Jorge because you never want to have an injury,” Marquez told the official MotoGP website. “And for Jorge it’s bad because he’s so strong at the moment.

“I’ve learned so many things from him. He deserved much better. We hope he has a good recovery and I’m sure he will be 100 percent for Germany.”

Marquez denied that losing one of his title rivals would change his approach for the Assen weekend.

“My mentality is the same,” said the Spanish rookie, who was fastest in the wet practice session in which Lorenzo crashed.
