Lorenzo in doubt for German GP

By

Jorge Lorenzo’s participation in the MotoGP German Grand Prix is in doubt following his massive second practice crash, potentially dealing a severe blow to his hopes of defending his 2012 crown.

The Spaniard was flicked airborne just three minutes into the second session at the Sachsenring, falling on his damaged left shoulder.

The reigning champion was taken to the medical center immediately after his Turn 10 crash, with scans indicating that the impact had bent the titanium plate inserted onto the collarbone he broke just two weeks ago in the Dutch TT.

Lorenzo will need to undergo further checks in the circuit’s medical center, including an X-ray, but may require a rest period of 24 to 48 hours before any further surgery can take place, potentially meaning he would be unable to compete. Official confirmation is yet to be issued by his team.

The damage could potentially be worsened by the fact the Sachsenring is the first of back-to-back weekends with the USGP at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Lorenzo currently lies second in the championship, just nine points behind leader Dani Pedrosa. He had won two straight races heading into the Dutch TT.
