Charles Pic will start the German Grand Prix from the back of the grid after being handed a five-place grid penalty for changing a part in his gearbox.
The Caterham driver had qualified 19th at the Nurburgring, but his team replaced a gearbox layshaft on his car ahead of the race.
As the part was not in the list of components that can be replaced without a breach of the rules, the stewards have had to move him back down the grid.
Pic’s penalty means countryman Jules Bianchi’s Marussia will now lead the back-of-the-field pack away.
